Card Design: QKR Challenge #27--Birthday with a Number

Hello everyone!  It is time for my final post this month as Guest Designer for  QKR Stampede.  The theme this week is "Birthday with a Number".  We really hope that you will come and join us in this week's challenge.

A random winner will win 2 free digi's from the store however if you use a QKR image, you will win 5 free digis.  So, show us all your birthday cards with a number somewhere on the project.  As I've previously mentioned, QKR has some fantastic images to work with.  In this my final week, I got to play with the following images for my GDT entry:

Here is the front of the card...

And for a closer look...

Here is the inside of the card...

Here are the card details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

  • General Notes:  First off I must apologize to the team and to QKR.  I just realized as I was gathering my links for this post that the image is supposed to be a gator.  Now don't ask me why, but I saw a hippopotamus when I downloaded and then coloured in this design.  When I sit back and look at the image carefully, I realize I was sorely mistaken.  Now since gator's generally aren't grey, I ask for forgiveness.  Mea culpa QKR, mea culpa.
Digital Images:
  •  Birthday Gator (front):  Gator or hippo, this image is adorable.  I love the expression on his face and the great cake he is holding looks yummy even before being coloured up.  If you are interested in purchasing this image it is available HERE.  It was mostly coloured using Copic markers.  Birthday Cake:  BG10, BG15, BG18 (layers); R20, R22, R24 (frosting); BG15, BG18, Y15, YR04, YR07 (candles)GatorR20, R22, R24 (ear, tongue); W1, W3, W5, W7 (body).  Grounding around the gator: BG10 around the image, grey and black watercolour pencils for actual ground.
  • Balloon (inside):  The balloon is actually two different digis, one for the balloon which is available HERE for purchase and the string which is available HERE.  QKR has lots of balloon type images for sale plus a long string and short string to help mix things up.  It was just printed out using printer ink matching the brown to the DP.
Digital Sentiments:
  • Senior Discounts sentiment (inside):  This funny verse on the inside is available for purchase HERE.  I love this cheeky sentiment and it fit so perfectly for the person I'm designing the card for.  I just have to hope that the intended recipient doesn't see this post or they will know exactly who this card is for when they read the sentiments.  It was printed onto white cardstock using ink to match the balloon.    I thought it would be fun to print the sentiment within the balloon for a different look.
  • Candles quote (front):  One I created to carry on with the theme of aging.
Paper Products:
  • Card base and shadow: dark brown cardstock--from Dollarama.
  • Designer Papers:  Front & inside-- Recollection's Mosaic Memories Paper Pad.
Ribbon:
  • Craft brand--from Dollarama.
Embellishments:
  • Sequins--from Dollarama.
Challenges I hope to enter include:

So, please head on over to QKR Stampede and join in all the fun.  While you are there, check out the fabulous cards offered up by the QKR design team It has been my pleasure to be able to work alongside these talented ladies and also to work with such an incredible line of stamps. I hope you have the opportunity to join us this week because we'd love to see where your creativity leads you!

As I've now added to my comment section, thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog and to write me a little note.  Whether you are a regular, here for the first time or popping over in your official capacity as a DT member, please know how much I appreciate the words that you leave behind. Your encouragement helps me to become a better designer.   I try my best to reply to your comments (when an email address is available) but that is getting more and more difficult as my plate fills up with new responsibilities, new roles, and new obligations.  If I don't get the opportunity to thank you personally, know that I don't take a single comment for granted. Thank you for your understanding.

Until next time,

Note: I apologize if there are any formatting issues.  This is a scheduled post and we all know Blogger has a mind of it's own.  If it turns out that something looks wonky, i.e.--part of the sentence a different size than the rest, I'll fix it as soon as I'm able to.

Hippo - gator! They both have big teeth, right? This is just so much fun - definitely brings a smile and chuckle, as cards should. Love the papers - the number grid is especially appropriate. Fun sentiments. Always glad when you link to DDF at My Paper Crafting.
Hugs,
